Organizing...

Last weekend, I inherited a lot of fabric from my sister-in-law, who had inherited it from my mom. When I say a lot...I mean A LOT! So we loaded my trunk until their closet was empty...and we stuffed my trunk full to the brim.

I've spent the last 5 days sorting, organizing, and building new shelves to house the new collection. I think my fabric collection grew over twice what it was before.

This isn't even a third of my collection!

I started out by taking all of my fabric off the shelves as well, and starting over from scratch. With this much cloth, I'd want it organized. I sorted by similar colors, ethnic textiles, and lining fabrics. I started out with one cabinet, an open 3 level small shelf, and an ugly 3 tier open bookshelf previously. My cabinet was practically vomitting fabric..there was fabric on top of it, spilling out of it, to the side of it..all around it...same went for the bookshelf. It looked hideous.

I ended up buying 2 more cabinets, another 3 level small shelf to stack on the one I had, and 4 two-hole cubbyholes.

And finally, I am glad to be done...I don't have before pictures (too embarrassed at my old mess, it was bad!), but here's what it looks like now..ah..all organized :D
